It is a controlling motive of life, in matters spiritual and moral. A wholesome dread of displeasing God. If lost, it leads to a casual attitude toward God. Our whole duty as a person is to fear God and keep His commandments. This means to hate sin and cleave to what is good. To be wise, requires the fear of God.
